Infirmary / Barter Arrangements
« on: October 29, 2017, 02:57:00 PM »
For bartered services to help or completely pay off infirmary debt. Also to help with some confusion when characters are helping around the infirmary but don't actually work there.

Name
Amount owed
Services offered for repayment purposes
Amount deducted for services (Can be assumed or time can be applied. Example, so-and-so will clean bloody rags three times a week for two months to pay off debt.)
Notes (If any.)

Basic set up, doesn't have to be followed, used more so for guidelines and examples on what this section is for. If the person doing work in the infirmary to pay off debt wants to do little updates here, feel free so long as it was icly worked out that they'd be doing stuff in the infirm.

Infirmary / Patient Notes and Payments
« on: June 15, 2017, 11:55:03 PM »
Patient notes to infirmary staff and payments that are dropped off can be put here! You can also send them via discord or whispers.

I figure why not have a place for them here though!

Notes and payments can be put here and I'll keep things updated, please don't post them in the patient log unless you're a worker bee. Thanks! :D

Infirmary / In Case of Emergency
« on: May 03, 2017, 01:25:22 AM »
If you have a character with an injury and no members of staff are online and/or in the infirmary, the Master Healer can be assumed to be in the room (as a NPC) treating your character. We do not have any NPC healers! This is on purpose because there are characters always in the infirmary who would know if people come in, and this way I can be contacted and made aware of patiens and update the patient log accordingly!

Ania and Zehera live in the infirmary and both are usually there, even if we can't be logged in at the time. You can reach Ania by whispering me on Ourania or Amena Britta, through the forums, RPR, or through Discord. My Discord name is Amena and I can be found in Etla's channel. I'm happy to discuss what treatments would be issued and help you out so your character isn't in a medical dilemma. I almost always have my phone on me, so if you have Discord, try me there first. Other characters that work in the infirmary can be reached through whispers, the forum, and Discord as well, and are free to post their best method of contact here. We're here to help!

The staff list can be found here:
http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=823.0

Anyone on the staff list is able to contact any of the staff so don't be afraid to contact whoever is online at the time.

Infirmary / Infirmary Staff Requirements
« on: November 29, 2016, 04:49:44 PM »
Infirmary Staff Requirements

Every staff member will be told this information in person, and it is available in writing if needed.

  • Anyone who treats a patient that works at the infirmary is required to document the patients they see in the patient log. This includes patients they see in the infirmary or outside of it (prison, house visits, etc). The treating healer is in charge of billing the patients they see and collecting payment.
  • Anyone who treats a patient and uses infirmary supplies is required to document the supplies they used in the inventory log book for stock management. (NPC log book, it is assumed this happens.)
  • If the staff member brings in supplies, they are to document what they brought in in the inventory book. Medics and apprentices are urged to bring in herbs they collected to help with the infirmary supplies and to further their understanding of herbs. They do not get paid for this service, but instead this service is considered a means of payment to the healer in charge of their studies for teaching them.
  • Healers, medics, and apprentices are to update the daily roster for cleaning management including stock management of cleaning supplies and any supplies they made for the infirmary (medicines, salves, etc).
  • Anticipated hours in the infirmary should be made aware to Ania so she knows who is available and when they are available.
  • A monthly meeting is required for each healer, medic, apprentice, and worker of the infirmary. These meetings are to ensure that the infirmary is meeting the staff members expectations and for them to give feedback. Failure to meet for three consecutive months unless otherwise made aware of an absence ahead of time will result in removal.

Infirmary / Infirmary Payment Guidelines
« on: June 03, 2016, 02:07:23 PM »
Infirmary Payment System

The infirmary thrives based on patients that are seen, funds donated, and Ania's personal funds. Because of this, healer's make most of their money based on the patients they see. Costs in the infirmary can be high for this reason. Apprentices will make a sum based on any patients they see, but it will be a lesser payment since someone will be overseeing their patient treatments.

Healers and Medics have free reign to charge based on the work they do, the difficulty of the injury/illness, or the difficulty of the patient. They are also required to charge for any supplies they used. Supply charges go straight to the infirmary for restocking purposes, labor fees are for the healers to keep.

Supplies have fixed prices that Ania dictates based on where they come from. These prices will always be documented in her inventory book, it will note the base cost and the chargeable cost. If herbs are gathered by the healers themselves, they won't be as expensive as some herbs that need to be ordered and delivered. If herbs are received from a herbalist, the prices are dictated by that herbalist's pricing. Pricing will be slightly higher than the initial cost so the infirmary can have added income for additional supplies.

Supplies include anything that would be used on a patient: herbs, bandages, medicine, etc.

Patients that stay the night, or for several nights, will be charged extra for their stay, the charges will include any meal costs, the laundering or replacement of sheets, clothing and the like, and additional labor for the healer that is staying to keep an eye on them.

If a patient is in need of food when they come into the infirmary, the cost of it will be applied to their bill.

Healers
Healers dictate their own labor costs which will be the amount they keep. They are required to include charges for supplies, overnight stays, and food. All prices for supplies are in the inventory book. Healers are made aware that they can charge what they deem appropriate for overnight stays and meal costs depending on their checking in on the patient and if they are getting meal items that aren't the typical soup and bread rations the infirmary always has on hand.

Medics
Medics dictate their own labor costs which will be the amount they will keep. They are required to include charges for supplies, overnight stays, and food. All prices for supplies are in the inventory book. Medics are made aware that they can charge what they deem appropriate for overnight stays and meal costs depending on their checking in on the patient and if they are getting meal items that aren't the typical soup and bread rations the infirmary always has on hand. Medics are expected to charge less for their labor costs than a highly trained healer.

Apprentices
Apprentices are not permitted to treat a patient without supervision unless they are far enough in their training and given verbal permission from a healer in charge. Emergency situations are always taken into consideration. An apprentice learns how to charge for their care from the healer overseeing them. The healer overseeing them sets the price for their assistance and the apprentice's labor. The healer splits the payment and decides how they want to split the payment. Cost of supplies is required to be charged and given to the infirmary.

The payment system:
As previously noted, patients will be charged based on the healer they are seeing. Because of this, there aren't fixed prices, except for the prices of supplies. If a patient can not pay, or can only pay a partial amount, it is up to the individual healer to dictate if they will see the patient or work out a payment plan.
  • If a patient is seeing Ania, she may give the option of trading services for medical care. Examples:
    • Someone guards the infirmary or physically protects a healer, they will either get discounted or free care.
    • Someone builds a needed item for the infirmary or helps with repairs.
  • Orphans or those who are not well off can trade services by cleaning or running errands, but the majority of their costs tend to come out of the donation fund.

Deals with guilds/establishments
Ania has made previous deals with specific guilds or establishments so they can be billed accordingly. These vary depending on the agreement reached with the establishment. (This can be RPed out with me, or I can be messaged here or on Discord to work something out. Or you can post below to make note that your guild has a deal with the infirmary.)

Healers will still charge what they deem necessary, deals are meant to help healers and patients, not exclusively to give discounts unless that establishment makes donations to the infirmary.

Donations:
Donations can come to the infirmary to help with the cost of supplies and upkeep, or with the cost of patients that do not have the means to pay. Ania will not turn a patient away, but she doesn't want the infirmary to go broke and shut down, either.

Donations can be made specifically for apprentices, these funds go towards the teaching and supplies for apprentices. Depending on the amount given, it can also cover food costs and sleeping arrangements.

Patrons who make donations are given special care, often without their knowledge, such as discounted pricing. This only applies if Ania is their healer and if the donation was not anonymous.

Ania tends to charge a lesser amount to guards, seeing as they have a direct line to the infirmary and are prone to get hurt. This only applies if Ania is their healer, and so long as they aren't super rude to her!

The wealthy
As Master Healer, Ania takes care of a majority of the wealthy, council members, and the reigning hierarchy. Other healers and medics can, of course, treat the same patients, but typically the wealthy get to choose who they want to treat them. They get some special treatment. The wealthy are charged more because they can afford it, but they aren't charged so much that they would think they're being taken advantage of.

The middle class
The middle class is charged accordingly, prices for care can be steep, but not so much that they'll starve that night. If they simply can't make payments, they are expected to make a trade or payment plan.

The poor
Still expected to pay in some way, the poor tend to worry about infirmary costs more than anyone else. They are the ones that are typically given other options to pay back the healer and infirmary for their care. Such as exchanging care for services, or donating time to the infirmary to pay off their care via labor. The young that have no means to do such things are treated regardless, a good majority of donations go to their care. They can, and have, still offer to do small, menial tasks for the infirmary if they want to pay off their debt. Healers will typically accept any work they are capable of, but will still use donated funds since it would take a really long time for their care to be paid off.

Injuries due to crime
If the person at fault for injuring the patient is not held responsible for costs, the patient is responsible for taking care of them. Donations can be used for those unable to pay, but as of now, there is no specific donation fund towards injuries due to criminal activities. The treating healer can deduct their own labor costs as they see fit, but costs of supplies must be covered by someone or by donations.

Disclaimer
Ania gives all healers permission to charge extra if a patient is unruly, difficult in any way, or excessively rude to a healer.

OOC Notes:
Did I miss something? Send me a note, comment here, whichever! I've had a system in place for a long time but never wrote it out. It has been ICly discussed with other healers, but I hope this helps explain a lot of the ways the infirmary's financial system works. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding it so hopefully, this clears it up! I may have missed a few things, so this will be subject to edits. If any other healers have feedback, I'll add on accordingly.

Infirmary / Patient Log
« on: June 03, 2016, 01:13:27 PM »
The Patient Log is available to all healers, medics, and apprentices. (Not available to the public, and locked away when not in use. The log book will only be given to guards/bloodsworn if requested, but is not to leave the infirmary.) Each patient that is seen is expected to be jotted down in the log. Any pertinent information should be recorded, but there is basic information that should be recorded.

Required information:
Treating Healer
Patient Name (If no name is given, then a description is required)
Patient Ailment
Treatment issued (Or treatment recommended. In the case that treatment is refused, it should be noted.)
Payment (This can simply be filled out as 'paid' or 'not paid'. The actual money part can be recorded, I try to keep a general idea of how much money the infirmary is getting in and spending. If the bill is not paid, then a description of planned payment should be noted. i.e. say an orphan is treated, you can write in 'not paid - orphan' and Ania will know to take the payment out of the donation box to pay the healer accordingly. If someone is going to come back to pay, then 'not paid - will return with payment' works.)

Any additional information can be recorded. Patient records and logs are kept in the locked area of the infirmary, and detailed information about the patient, i.e. their life history is suggested not to be recorded, so patient privacy can remain intact. If a patient was injured due to an attack, a report about their injuries is required so it can be shared with law enforcement as necessary.

Infirmary / Infirmary FAQ and General Info
« on: April 14, 2016, 12:03:48 PM »
If there are any questions I haven't addressed feel free to ask here and I'll add them to the list.

Who are the healers?
There is a post with all of the healers, medics, and apprentices listed, along with their abilities: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=823.0.
Healers now have the mark of the healer: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=843.0.
Staff list is here: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=823.0.

My character is hurt and there are no healers in the infirmary. What do I do?!
We don't technically have  NPC nurses or healers, but in the event of an emergency, feel free to assume a NPC worker took care of your character. If you want something more legit, I'm open to Ania being NPCed as doing the healing, magic or mundane. Just send me an offline whisper and when I'm online I can let you know what Ania would have done to heal your person up. Most other healers are okay with this too, just ask one of us and we'll take care of you.

Inventory and non-workers in the infirmary.
Inventory is locked behind a door and can only be accessed with a key, or a magic crystal, depending on which healer can heal without, or with magic. It is locked away because of past thievery which caused financial issues for Ania, who spends personal funds on what isn't covered by patients or donations. Only those who work in the infirmary have these keys. Players who go into the infirmary that do not work there and take inventory are considered as breaking an entry and stealing from the infirmary, which can get guards and stuff involved. For this reason, the NPC stuff above can apply. It's ICly considered rude, and honestly confusing for those who work there, for someone who does not work there to throw down like they do. If you want to work there, or if your character can do basic healy stuff and wants special permissions to heal as needed, ask me! I will work with you! I don't want to take RP from anyone. If Ania is in need of help, she has taken offers of help from non-infirmary workers for a night or a few hours.

More on inventory.
Per her agreement with Sarion when made Master Healer, Ania is in charge of inventory in the infirmary, and any inventory needed for the castle and cathedral in regards to healing supplies. If anyone wants to change it up to her only supplying inventory to the infirmary, that works for me. But because of IC conversations, I consider all of that a part of her job. Inventory is locked and only accessible to healers who have the mark of the healer. There is  also a very large log book with all of her inventory listed. You can assume pretty much anything that is needed will be in the infirmary, and if it isn't there, it can be ordered or made.

Are there clothes for people who need them?
In the case of a person needing a clean pair of clothing, they are given a basic cotton tunic and pants. Pajama style. These are usually basic, flat colors, like beige or cream. They come in several sizes but are typically oversized either way. The patient can wear these home, or do whatever they want with them. If they want to return them, they can. A charge for clothing will be added to the overall bill if the clothing is taken, or ruined in one way or another.

Are there wards?
Yes. And there is a sticky detailing them here: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=844.0.

How clean is the infirmary?
The infirmary is spotless. Many characters painstakingly clean, even moving furniture to do so. If the infirmary is messy, we make sure to post as much. Like, hey, there's a bloodstain over there. Hey! There's vomit by the door. Etc etc. These typically are cleaned as soon as someone is able to clean. Everyone on staff helps clean and cleans up after themselves. Assumptions that the infirmary is automatically dirty will ICly insult those who work to keep it clean.  ;)

What does the infirmary smell like?
Typically, herbs and whatever medicine is being cooked up that day. Sometimes soup. The scent can depend on what's going on in the infirmary.

Is there food and drink in the infirmary?
Ania makes a new pot of soup every day and keeps it near the fire to stay warm. It's pretty much the only thing she can cook. Any other food stores are reserved for infirmary staff to have for themselves, or give to patients as they deem necessary. You're not going to find a big filling meal in the infirmary, just basics. Hungry orphans who don't eat often have been known to come in for a free meal. Paying patients will have any food or drink added to their bill. There is always a kettle and pot for making tea, and tea blends made by Ania and some of the other healers. These are left out for pretty much anyone to make, though a healer or well-seasoned infirmary visitor is more likely to do the tea making. Water is always available.

Pricing?
Cost of healing is expensive, I base this on the time period the dream is in. At one point I was putting together a pricing list, but pricing will fluctuate depending on the patient and their particular needs. This is not common knowledge. Independent healers are in charge of getting payment for the work they do and can charge what they like. This is how they make most of their money. The only fixed prices are on medications and herbs, so a healer will basically charge for supplies and labor. Supply charges go to Ania for restocking, any money that a healer takes for labor costs is theirs. Unless they are an apprentice, apprentices get paid less. If someone can not pay, Ania offers a trade for services offered or payment plans for those who can't offer anything. Other healers can do the same but aren't required to. For anyone completely unable to pay, there is a donation fund to cover their costs. These donations typically come from Etla residents and nobles. Typically they are anonymous.

Character Sheets / Ourania aka Ania (Alt)
« on: May 23, 2015, 01:12:16 PM »
Full Name: Ourania Eibhlin Kosar *Ourania goes by Ania
Aliases:  Ania, Ani, and at one time Rani
Hair: White
Fur/Skin: White
Eyes: Purple
Height: 5’1”
Weight: 115
Species: Snow Leopard
Race: ~

Alignment: Neutral Good
Profession: Healer

Resistances: None that she's aware of but she doesn't get sick all that much
Weaknesses: When overly stressed she gets debilitating migraines that can get so bad she’ll pass out. At one time these could make her lose up to an hour worth of memory, but this seems to be in remission. Minor OCD, she stresses over messes, and keeps herself clean. She enjoys getting dirty and bloody when she works, but everything needs to be cleaned up and disinfected afterwards. Workaholic.
Phobias: Amnesia

Statistics:
Strength - Low
Constitution - Medium
Dexterity - Medium
Agility - Low
Intelligence - High
Wisdom - High

Fortitude - Low
Reflex - Medium
Will - High

Details:
Weapons
- Dagger
- Paring knife
Armor
- Armor - None
- Trinkets – Wears a necklace with a ring strung through hidden beneath clothing.

Abilities
(Natural)
- Flight – Not especially skilled or well practiced, but can manage and make it look graceful if there are no trees nearby
- Feline – And the things that come with it
 (Learned)
- Ability to heal magically – Using water, Ania is able to coax a body to heal faster. This will not completely heal the body, but will heal it enough so life threatening injuries are no longer life threatening (unless the patient runs out and overexerts themselves and that particular area). This can only be used on physical wounds and breaks, and she will only use it if necessary as it is very draining on her, and it can only be used so many times per day since it is so draining.
- Healing with herbs – Well versed in plant life and herbs that heal. She is always documenting plants and creating teas, tinctures, and practically anything that can be made with herbs (even shampoos and soaps).
- Anatomy – She has a morbid fascination with anatomy and how the body works. She would never kill someone, but she has asked for any unclaimed deceased to cut open and poke around at their insides. Ania keeps a book detailing several species anatomy, and uses this to help in the healing process.

Appearance
The short, winged femme kept herself tidy and up to date with fashionable dresses. Pristine fur was smooth and had no markings. Hair was just as white, and nearly trailed to knees. Most days, it was kept twisted atop her skull, tendrils coiling in front of her face. Her face held onto most of her youth, but deep purple eyes carry the weight of heartache. Fur around eyes jutted in odd directions, burying old scars. If one looked close enough, they could make out the outline of a star around the left eye, and a crescent moon around the right. A healer by trade, she carries a satchel with insignia to show her profession. Large wings fold against her back. Sometimes accompanied by a white noot; Ava.

Any other pertinent info:
Ania is secretive about herself, almost to the point of seeming paranoid. She only gives out her real name to those she trusts. She also suffered a five year memory loss a long time ago, and can not remember to this day exactly what happened during that time. She has had small flashes here and there when someone from that time was involved in her life, but now that that chapter is closed, she tries to put it in her past. She is afraid something like this can happen again, and knows that her migraines that can cause memory loss are a consequence of blunt head trauma that she can't quite remember. Because of these fears she practically works non stop, always documenting in journals, rewriting old journals, and keeping up to date with any new medical advances. This has kept her memory sharp, and along with some self medicating, it has been years since she's had memory issues. Ania is fairly weak physically, and carries scars on her face that are a consistent reminder that the healer is pretty easy to beat on. She puts up a tough front, especially while on the job. She's had far too many patients that think they know best, and she's not above yelling at a patient and telling them how badly they can suffer if they don't do what she says.

(Learned)
- Fighting with weapons – Katars, daggars, small knives, and most blades. Some knowledge in sword fighting, but sword fighting isn’t a strength of hers, so you won’t see her with one.
- Hand to hand fighting – Specifically Maui Thai, and some other basic hand to hand styles.
- Reading - It was a big accomplishment!

Appearance
Five foot tall even, the femme looked younger than her years and carried herself with a warriors confidence. Dark brown hair reaches just past shoulders in loose curls. Chocolate eyes shadowed beneath a green hat. Several necklace chains ending with charms dangle to her collarbone. A form fitting leather top curves around a scarred, thin, sinewy frame. The back mostly left open for feathery wings and to show off the studs that pierce skin around the spine from the nape of her neck to the base of her tail. Sleeves are made up of bracers and straps of leather, what parts of biceps that are visible are well toned. Pants, also made of leather, tuck into knee high boots. Katars sheathed and rest against hips and a dagger is strapped around her left thigh. Various weapons are hidden elsewhere.

Any other pertinent info:
Amena is possessed by a demon named Xato. His stats are pretty much the same, I'll add his info below since he comes out to play sometimes.

----
Alias: Xato
Race: Demon

Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Profession: None.

Resistances: Electrical damage.
Weaknesses: He doesn’t have full control of Amena’s body, and can ‘go away’ at any time.
Phobias: Losing complete control of a body, the body he is in control of dying and having no host to take control of, potentially repossessing his former host.

Statistics:
Same as Amena's

Details:
Weapons are all the same.

Abilities
(Natural)
- Flight – When Xato, flight isn’t used much, as he doesn’t know how to use the wings as well as Amena does.
- Shadowmancer – Can manipulate shadows, making them solid, and able to use them as weapons / minions.

Appearance
Like Amena, only crazier looking.

Any other pertinent info:
Xato is a borrowed character that was always meant to go back to his owner, but I’m not sure if that will ever happen. But because of this I won’t allow the demon to be removed.

Xato is a demon who survives in his host's body. He is insane, a sociopath, indulgent, and likes to epitomize evil. In taking another's body, he has little care for what harm comes to that body, so long as it stays alive long enough for him to find another host, though this process isn't an easy one. Once he takes refuge in a host, it will cease physical aging. He also speeds up the healing time on all wounds.

Amena has control over her body most of the time, but Xato is always pushing to have control. Once he is in control, his tone is still feminine because of the body he is in, but Amena's accent is replaced with a husky, German accent.
