All currency in Etla bears the royal insignia and is found in coins and bars of iron, copper, silver, gold, or platinum.

Platinum coin (10 gold = 1 platinum coin)

For those with a bit more wealth, who do not wish to lug around a sack full of coins, Silver, Gold and Platinum are minted in bars as well.
Silver bar = 1000 silver coins, or 100 gold coins.
Gold bar = 500 gold coins, or 50 platinum coins.
Platinum bar = 250 platinum coins or 2500 gold coins.



Please keep in mind, although we use a LOT of magic around here, this is still meant to be a medieval sort of era. Money wasn't easy to come by for the common person.

Some payment equivalencies for reference (in coins):
Fruits/Vegetables/: 1-5 Iron for basics
Loaf of bread: 5-10 Iron
Basic clothing: 1-5 silver
Good Meal (Fine dining): 5 silver
Night in the Inn: 1 gold
Fine clothing: 10-15 gold
Decent sword: ~10-20 gold
Small house: ~150 platinum bought, ~6 gold/month lease.
Noble's House: ~300 platinum, ~12 gold/month lease.

Here is a somewhat standardized pay scale for the era we're in.  These are average numbers for basic jobs (except the bottom 2 for scale), you can adjust accordingly.

Military:
 Archer - 4c/day
 Infantry - 8c/day
 Cavalry - 12c/day
 Lieutenant - 4s/day
 Captain - 8s/day

Mages:
 Student - 5s/month
 Initiate - 1g/week
 Magus - 10g/week
 
Mercenaries - 1-4s/day depending on skill
Guards/Wardens - 3s/week

Apprentice - 1s/week
Laborer - 8-10c/day depending on skill/work
Journeyman - 2-3s/day depending on skill
Master - 3.5-5s/day depending on skill
Shopkeeper - depends on sales and skill level (-expenses)

Bloodsworn Guard - ~1g-3g/day depending on rank and service (~360-1000g/year)
High Council - ~250p/year (2500g) (7g/day)

Keep in mind also that medieval cultures were far less of consumer cultures, and that not everyone was expected to buy things. This is a fantasy continuity, but the same idea stands; if you wanted something, you were far more likely to make it with common (here meaning 'from nature, free for everyone') materials than to buy it, or to trade with someone who had the skill to make it. This makes for more interesting RP, as well, as a chain of barter can make for some interesting situations. (Rapt's demands for unusual magic/potion ingredients, anyone?) It also makes having a poor character a valid OOC option rather than an IC question of "why are they not rich? it's really really easy to be rich, they just must be stupid."

In addition, commoners would not be expected to have their own housing set apart, and would be likely to live in tenement or segmented housing, to live with others as employees or servants, or to live with their families in condo/apartment/flat-style housing, such as is provided in the dream already!
