Grinning Dragon Metal Mineral & Earth Works / Re: A large weapon

The weapon ordered was delivered. It was a raven beak warhammer upscaled to a proper size for what had been requested. The haft was made of adamantine and wrapped in a dark, tough leather studded with rivets to hold it in place. The butt of the haft had a weighted spike to act as a counter balance as well as a weapon. The striking face of the hammer was square with the corners of the square raised slightly off the surface into sharper points that curved outwards, and made for cracking armor as well as helping focus the impact into smaller points. The opposite end was a slightly hooking, bladed spike known as a 'Raven's Beak' that was impossibly sharp. The metal was strange, a layered pattern weld of silver, and cold iron  that might have been mistaken as damascus. Runes were etched into the head along the the edges of it. Small, yet pulsing with power. The item emitted a very gentle metallic hum, and vibration when hefted.

I have received your order. Your dimensions will not be a problem, and I have an idea for the two metals. This will take time, but expect it within two weeks.

Signed,
James Darkarma

The letter would return after some time due to other duties the King had to address.

I apologize for the delay. I have reviewed the items within, and I believe I can do this. It will take me some time, perhaps two weeks, before I'll have the stones and such ready. The mirrors and cylinders I have an idea for which will add some time to it as well. I can create the cavity, but again, that will take time. Creating the re-enforcements, and gently nudging them into place without causing a collapse is tricky.  As far as cost that will depend, and I will begin to gather what I need. The hatchling, Blasa, is doing well, and I will have her with me to survey and learn from the project.

Signed,
James

Absolutely, I will begin to make prototypes for the needed lenses and will have them sent as soon as possible. We may need to wait for the smith to make the frames as I will need exact measurements for the lenses, unless you have those specifications.

Q&A / Re: Firearms
« on: September 02, 2016, 05:44:38 PM »
I will make a stressed note that rifling, while it STARTED to be worked on in the 15th century (Circa 1400's to 1530's), Rifled Barrels was still in developmental stages. It was not accurate. It was not common place. Many people had never heard of the science of it yet. It was not fully worked on until the MID to LATE 16th century, which Etla is still considered late 15th to very early 16th (the middle to near end of the Renaissance Period), so the technology is still considered in it's infancy. Mid to Late 16th century was when true rifling began to roll out, but it was still not a common thing until the late 19th century.

Unless a character is jumping through the rift from the future where rifling -was- an everyday thing, the technology did not exist in a manner that it was available in every household, every smithy, or in every armory. So if a rifle breaks, the ability to reforge the barrel with accurate rifling grooves will likely not be possible unless the rifles owner knows how to bore the barrel themselves.

It's also argued that early rifling wasn't meant to improve accuracy. It was to help to keep the barrel clear. The various detritus that would gather in the barrel (Metal filings, unburned powder, grime, dirt, etc) would gather in the grooves, and therefore would keep the guns from basically blowing up in the user's hands. It was later realized that if they put enough twists into the grooves they made the ball spin, and therefore, made it more accurate.

Muzzle loading matchlocks, arquebus, Gonne (AKA Hand cannons, the original). Non-rifled. 3 'preps' to reload.

Any guns from the 'future' would immediately become useless pieces of junk. This includes flintlocks, cartridge rifles ('Trap Door' guns, break actions, etc)

Yar, as long as she preps we're good to go. @Takurasho

The Gems would continue to be delivered on a daily basis until the count of twenty was complete. The letter requesting further business was heartily welcomed, and the Grinning Dragon stood ready to fulfill orders as needed. The quartz was formed into a perfect sphere, and returned a day later with a slowing of the gems as some of the day's time was given over to forming the orb.

A reply would follow later in the evening. Examples of the stones she wished were sent to be appraised, and seen if they would meet her demands. They were exact matches of the descriptions. The emerald was a deep green with excellent clarity and while cut lacked the almost microscopic imperfections from cutting. The jade was of high quality as well, and also expertly crafted. Upon confirmation the stones could be paid for and taken immediately with a promise to follow up with the rest of the order once payment was received. Total work time would be approximately one week with the gems being delivered on a daily basis as they were completed.

Details:
Weapons

Talons/Teeth/Bladed Spade (Tail) - Dragon spade, teeth and talons. Ancient, sharp and strong. Sharp and hard enough to rend/puncture most known metals.

Sword Cane 'Old Friend' - A long, straight length of ebon wood banded in bronze. Bronze caps mark each end of the length, and two hand spaces from the top two more bronze bands meet resting one atop the other. A stylized Eastern Dragon slowly wraps about the length from beneath the two bands, as if curling downwards to the ground. It is intricately carved, and detailed. The blade within is a straight, single edged sword whose blade is a rippling mix of black, grey and silver. The item, when drawn, emits a low hum of power. Easily the oldest weapon he owns.

Armor

Silver Brooch Amulet of Folding Plate - Upon a command word the brooch unfolds into paldrons, upper cannons, vambraces, and gauntlets. The gauntlets have re-enforced talon covers to allow James to use his talons while protecting his hands. The Brooch is that of a shield bearing James's personal insignia, the Darkarma insignia, and the Insignia of Ki'Est.

Abilities -

Natural -

Earth Elemental Control - Being an Earth Elemental Dragon allows a natural, and deep connection to the plane. Stone, dirt, metal, minerals, and things formed within the earth generally bend to an elemental's will. The Older the Dragon, the better the control. (Spells Include, but not limited to: Stoneform, Mud to Stone/Stone to Mud, Earthen Portal, etc)

Spider Climb - Copper Dragons have stunted wings. They have traded the ability to fly for being excellent climbers, and more developed muscles. They can climb any surface easily, and stick to earth based objects.

Line of Acid - Copper Dragon's breath weapon is a line of acid. Dimensions are based on the Dragon's size category, and strength is based on age.

Cone of Slow Gas - The secondary Breath Weapon is a cone of slow gas. Those within the cloud feel sluggish, and drowsy.

Learned -

Hide Carved/Ascendant - An ancient, and complex ritual where a Dragon goes through the painful carving process. The geometrical wards carved into both their scales, and flesh improve the strength of their scales versus both mundane, and magical assault while putting them more in tune with their natural/elemental abilities. This is simply the first step. At the end of it they consume their hoard, and travel to the home plane of their Element. The carvings further the link once upon their elemental home plane, and transform them over time. This also makes him 'immortal' in the sense of not dying of old age, and being able to perpetually ignore his Twilight. (Note that this took approximately three years to accomplish, and was fully role played out.)

Crafting - Since he was young the Dragon has been practicing his ability to shape things. Anything that can be delved out of the earth he can craft into wondrous items.

Martial Arts - As a young Darkarma a lot of time was focused on learning how to fight, and as he grew up spent a lot of time fighting. James has always preferred his talons to any weapon, and has focused most of his time on learning martial arts for when he is wandering around in his furre form. While in this process he has of course learned how to use most other common Martial Weapons (And several Monk weapons IE Butterfly Swords, Three Section Staffs, etc), but always prefers his claws if they're practical for the application. The styles appear to be a take on Kung Fu: Tiger, Dragon, Iron Body, Emperor Taizu (Taizu Changquan), and Luohan.

Rune/Sigil Lore - Dragons are naturals at magical spells, but James focused more on written magic then 'practical'. As he learned to craft he preferred the complex, and deep possibilities of Runes and Sigils. He treats Runic and Sigil based magic as if it were a clockwork device. A bunch of small parts interconnecting, and working together to make a larger whole. He generally cannot use this in combat unless he has taken the time to set traps, create items, etc that use runes to power their magic.

Appearance

Gleaming, copper scales cover the entirity of the frame of this Beast. It's aeonic hide battered by countless battles, and the weight of his age. Yet, while Venerable, this creature shows no signs of weakness. Pupilless, hazel hues burn quietly in their sockets like miniture fires. The flames of wisdom, and intelligence burn quietly along side the cold hardness of predatory killer instinct and the scarring of War. Ebon talons gleam at each claw, curved and vicious. They too carried the mark of age, and wear. Golden rivlets in the form of arcane, geometric markings cover his frame from snout tip to bladed tail. The muzzle was scarred heavily, bearing the twin marks that stretched from brow to jaw, and ear to nose creating a small cross on the left side of his muzzle. Fang filled maw was usually turned to a mischevious smirk that didn't meet the fire in his eyes.

This guy is nearly as old as my RP career. I'm nearing the twenty year mark, but this guy is around fourteen or fifteen years old at this point (I say fourteen to be sure). I've had to cull a lot of the powers that he was given over time. Symbiotic Spawn-Demon thing, Healing powers, imrpoved wings, all sorts of immunities, weapons, armor, etc etc etc

Anyone who has played a character for so long on furc, especially during the 'golden years' of the Imaginarium will know how easy it is to collect such things due to plots, story lines, etc.

I have whittled him down to just being a Dragon again. An Ancient, Ascendant and powerful dragon...But just a Dragon over all. He was just too insanely powerful before.

Note that he isn't quite finished yet. I'm still re-arranging some of his abilities, and things that I want to keep or perhaps edit. Most of the culling is over, I just need to decide the last few things to keep. I will post here to let anyone know when I've done changes.

Change: Updated the Martial Arts styles that James knows. They're based on my own knowledge. A local Kung Fu school that I train at teaches Wuzu Quan Kung Fu, and three of the six styles listed is covered beneath it.

- Written in a fine, yet spidery hand this missive could be seen etched into the very stone of some buildings. Seemingly disappearing after a few moments of existence. The image of a grinning, Draconic head dominates the bottom showing a toothy maw twisted in a mischievous and predatory grin. -

If it is found within the earth the Grinning Dragon can retrieve it, purify it, and shape it into whatever item is desired. Your imagination is the only limitation. Seek Master Darkarma in the Craftman's Quarter for further information, and consultation.
