Infirmary / Re: A Letter for Ania
« on: July 14, 2016, 05:57:59 AM »
Ania replied promptly, having a letter delivered to the Snowe household. Her writing was neat, tidy, and professional.

Delysia Snowe,

I cannot give an approximate amount before checking on your progress in person. I can deliver at your home for your comfort, but I will need supplies readied ahead of time. Expect for no more than five gold, however, circumstances may cause the price to shift. If you would like a home visit to discuss this in further detail, I shall make myself available to you.

Sincerely,
Ania Kyuuzou

Treating Healer: Ania
Patient Name: Ashley Schwartz
Patient Ailment: Head trauma, signs of concussion, one pupil blown out. Suffering short term memory loss. In a lot of pain. Swelling in the head, likely excess cerebral fluid around the brain along with brain swelling, causing pressure and pain.
Treatment issued: Medications delivered, instructions given to (NPC Healer) for further treatment, follow up needed. The (NPC Healer) in question does not seem have much knowledge with head injuries. Suggested the patient move around a few times a day, so that if there is excess fluid, it can drain naturally if able.
Payment: Billed 4 gold.

Notes: Made a house visit due to a missive received by Dawson Capris requesting I take a look and see if there is anything I can do. Worry was expressed over her mental state. Dawson sent literature and a suggestion on treatment. Caution is suggested to be taken with those who have not completed formal training under my, or another healer's tutelage. Dawson had dropped out of his training, and apparently believes he knows more than the Masters. Notated here because of his connections with the patient, and the potential for him take matters into his own hands and doing more harm than good.

Infirmary / Re: A donation to the Infirmary Staff
« on: June 13, 2016, 10:46:55 AM »
Ania, always happy to receive food as a form of a donation, had the crab set in a corner of the infirmary to dole out to patients and offer to infirmary staff. It was a lot of crab, and she'd push off crab meat on anyone who came in. Here, eat it! Don't want to waste food.

Any patients currently staying in the infirmary, or those who come in and need something to eat will not have food charges added to their bill so long as they are eating crab. Orphans are urged to stop by for a free meal as well.

Infirmary / Infirmary Payment Guidelines
« on: June 03, 2016, 02:07:23 PM »
Infirmary Payment System

The infirmary thrives based on patients that are seen, funds donated, and Ania's personal funds. Because of this, healer's make most of their money based on the patients they see. Costs in the infirmary can be high for this reason. Apprentices will make a sum based on any patients they see, but it will be a lesser payment since someone will be overseeing their patient treatments.

Healers and Medics have free reign to charge based on the work they do, the difficulty of the injury/illness, or the difficulty of the patient. They are also required to charge for any supplies they used. Supply charges go straight to the infirmary for restocking purposes, labor fees are for the healers to keep.

Supplies have fixed prices that Ania dictates based on where they come from. These prices will always be documented in her inventory book, it will note the base cost and the chargeable cost. If herbs are gathered by the healers themselves, they won't be as expensive as some herbs that need to be ordered and delivered. If herbs are received from a herbalist, the prices are dictated by that herbalist's pricing. Pricing will be slightly higher than the initial cost so the infirmary can have added income for additional supplies.

Supplies include anything that would be used on a patient: herbs, bandages, medicine, etc.

Patients that stay the night, or for several nights, will be charged extra for their stay, the charges will include any meal costs, the laundering or replacement of sheets, clothing and the like, and additional labor for the healer that is staying to keep an eye on them.

If a patient is in need of food when they come into the infirmary, the cost of it will be applied to their bill.

Healers
Healers dictate their own labor costs which will be the amount they keep. They are required to include charges for supplies, overnight stays, and food. All prices for supplies are in the inventory book. Healers are made aware that they can charge what they deem appropriate for overnight stays and meal costs depending on their checking in on the patient and if they are getting meal items that aren't the typical soup and bread rations the infirmary always has on hand.

Medics
Medics dictate their own labor costs which will be the amount they will keep. They are required to include charges for supplies, overnight stays, and food. All prices for supplies are in the inventory book. Medics are made aware that they can charge what they deem appropriate for overnight stays and meal costs depending on their checking in on the patient and if they are getting meal items that aren't the typical soup and bread rations the infirmary always has on hand. Medics are expected to charge less for their labor costs than a highly trained healer.

Apprentices
Apprentices are not permitted to treat a patient without supervision unless they are far enough in their training and given verbal permission from a healer in charge. Emergency situations are always taken into consideration. An apprentice learns how to charge for their care from the healer overseeing them. The healer overseeing them sets the price for their assistance and the apprentice's labor. The healer splits the payment and decides how they want to split the payment. Cost of supplies is required to be charged and given to the infirmary.

The payment system:
As previously noted, patients will be charged based on the healer they are seeing. Because of this, there aren't fixed prices, except for the prices of supplies. If a patient can not pay, or can only pay a partial amount, it is up to the individual healer to dictate if they will see the patient or work out a payment plan.
  • If a patient is seeing Ania, she may give the option of trading services for medical care. Examples:
    • Someone guards the infirmary or physically protects a healer, they will either get discounted or free care.
    • Someone builds a needed item for the infirmary or helps with repairs.
  • Orphans or those who are not well off can trade services by cleaning or running errands, but the majority of their costs tend to come out of the donation fund.

Deals with guilds/establishments
Ania has made previous deals with specific guilds or establishments so they can be billed accordingly. These vary depending on the agreement reached with the establishment. (This can be RPed out with me, or I can be messaged here or on Discord to work something out. Or you can post below to make note that your guild has a deal with the infirmary.)

Healers will still charge what they deem necessary, deals are meant to help healers and patients, not exclusively to give discounts unless that establishment makes donations to the infirmary.

Donations:
Donations can come to the infirmary to help with the cost of supplies and upkeep, or with the cost of patients that do not have the means to pay. Ania will not turn a patient away, but she doesn't want the infirmary to go broke and shut down, either.

Donations can be made specifically for apprentices, these funds go towards the teaching and supplies for apprentices. Depending on the amount given, it can also cover food costs and sleeping arrangements.

Patrons who make donations are given special care, often without their knowledge, such as discounted pricing. This only applies if Ania is their healer and if the donation was not anonymous.

Ania tends to charge a lesser amount to guards, seeing as they have a direct line to the infirmary and are prone to get hurt. This only applies if Ania is their healer, and so long as they aren't super rude to her!

The wealthy
As Master Healer, Ania takes care of a majority of the wealthy, council members, and the reigning hierarchy. Other healers and medics can, of course, treat the same patients, but typically the wealthy get to choose who they want to treat them. They get some special treatment. The wealthy are charged more because they can afford it, but they aren't charged so much that they would think they're being taken advantage of.

The middle class
The middle class is charged accordingly, prices for care can be steep, but not so much that they'll starve that night. If they simply can't make payments, they are expected to make a trade or payment plan.

The poor
Still expected to pay in some way, the poor tend to worry about infirmary costs more than anyone else. They are the ones that are typically given other options to pay back the healer and infirmary for their care. Such as exchanging care for services, or donating time to the infirmary to pay off their care via labor. The young that have no means to do such things are treated regardless, a good majority of donations go to their care. They can, and have, still offer to do small, menial tasks for the infirmary if they want to pay off their debt. Healers will typically accept any work they are capable of, but will still use donated funds since it would take a really long time for their care to be paid off.

Injuries due to crime
If the person at fault for injuring the patient is not held responsible for costs, the patient is responsible for taking care of them. Donations can be used for those unable to pay, but as of now, there is no specific donation fund towards injuries due to criminal activities. The treating healer can deduct their own labor costs as they see fit, but costs of supplies must be covered by someone or by donations.

Disclaimer
Ania gives all healers permission to charge extra if a patient is unruly, difficult in any way, or excessively rude to a healer.

OOC Notes:
Did I miss something? Send me a note, comment here, whichever! I've had a system in place for a long time but never wrote it out. It has been ICly discussed with other healers, but I hope this helps explain a lot of the ways the infirmary's financial system works. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding it so hopefully, this clears it up! I may have missed a few things, so this will be subject to edits. If any other healers have feedback, I'll add on accordingly.

Infirmary / Patient Log
« on: June 03, 2016, 01:13:27 PM »
The Patient Log is available to all healers, medics, and apprentices. (Not available to the public, and locked away when not in use. The log book will only be given to guards/bloodsworn if requested, but is not to leave the infirmary.) Each patient that is seen is expected to be jotted down in the log. Any pertinent information should be recorded, but there is basic information that should be recorded.

Required information:
Treating Healer
Patient Name (If no name is given, then a description is required)
Patient Ailment
Treatment issued (Or treatment recommended. In the case that treatment is refused, it should be noted.)
Payment (This can simply be filled out as 'paid' or 'not paid'. The actual money part can be recorded, I try to keep a general idea of how much money the infirmary is getting in and spending. If the bill is not paid, then a description of planned payment should be noted. i.e. say an orphan is treated, you can write in 'not paid - orphan' and Ania will know to take the payment out of the donation box to pay the healer accordingly. If someone is going to come back to pay, then 'not paid - will return with payment' works.)

Any additional information can be recorded. Patient records and logs are kept in the locked area of the infirmary, and detailed information about the patient, i.e. their life history is suggested not to be recorded, so patient privacy can remain intact. If a patient was injured due to an attack, a report about their injuries is required so it can be shared with law enforcement as necessary.

Infirmary / Re: Infirmary FAQ and General Info
« on: June 03, 2016, 12:57:59 AM »
(I can write up how payments work, too. Every healer has general guidelines for how they take payment, seeing patients is how they get paid. Ania's system is that everyone who comes in for care is expected to pay. If someone can't pay, they can trade services, or work out a way to pay the healer back. Orphans and kids get free care, their healing services are deducted from donations that are given to the infirmary. Yeah I'll write something up! My laptop that I had for a month and a half broke And I'm borrowing one while it's being fixed, so bear with me I'll get all of this up as soon as I can.)

Infirmary / Infirmary FAQ and General Info
« on: April 14, 2016, 12:03:48 PM »
If there are any questions I haven't addressed feel free to ask here and I'll add them to the list.

Who are the healers?
There is a post with all of the healers, medics, and apprentices listed, along with their abilities: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=823.0.
Healers now have the mark of the healer: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=843.0.
Staff list is here: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=823.0.

My character is hurt and there are no healers in the infirmary. What do I do?!
We don't technically have  NPC nurses or healers, but in the event of an emergency, feel free to assume a NPC worker took care of your character. If you want something more legit, I'm open to Ania being NPCed as doing the healing, magic or mundane. Just send me an offline whisper and when I'm online I can let you know what Ania would have done to heal your person up. Most other healers are okay with this too, just ask one of us and we'll take care of you.

Inventory and non-workers in the infirmary.
Inventory is locked behind a door and can only be accessed with a key, or a magic crystal, depending on which healer can heal without, or with magic. It is locked away because of past thievery which caused financial issues for Ania, who spends personal funds on what isn't covered by patients or donations. Only those who work in the infirmary have these keys. Players who go into the infirmary that do not work there and take inventory are considered as breaking an entry and stealing from the infirmary, which can get guards and stuff involved. For this reason, the NPC stuff above can apply. It's ICly considered rude, and honestly confusing for those who work there, for someone who does not work there to throw down like they do. If you want to work there, or if your character can do basic healy stuff and wants special permissions to heal as needed, ask me! I will work with you! I don't want to take RP from anyone. If Ania is in need of help, she has taken offers of help from non-infirmary workers for a night or a few hours.

More on inventory.
Per her agreement with Sarion when made Master Healer, Ania is in charge of inventory in the infirmary, and any inventory needed for the castle and cathedral in regards to healing supplies. If anyone wants to change it up to her only supplying inventory to the infirmary, that works for me. But because of IC conversations, I consider all of that a part of her job. Inventory is locked and only accessible to healers who have the mark of the healer. There is  also a very large log book with all of her inventory listed. You can assume pretty much anything that is needed will be in the infirmary, and if it isn't there, it can be ordered or made.

Are there clothes for people who need them?
In the case of a person needing a clean pair of clothing, they are given a basic cotton tunic and pants. Pajama style. These are usually basic, flat colors, like beige or cream. They come in several sizes but are typically oversized either way. The patient can wear these home, or do whatever they want with them. If they want to return them, they can. A charge for clothing will be added to the overall bill if the clothing is taken, or ruined in one way or another.

Are there wards?
Yes. And there is a sticky detailing them here: http://eileadora.com/index.php?topic=844.0.

How clean is the infirmary?
The infirmary is spotless. Many characters painstakingly clean, even moving furniture to do so. If the infirmary is messy, we make sure to post as much. Like, hey, there's a bloodstain over there. Hey! There's vomit by the door. Etc etc. These typically are cleaned as soon as someone is able to clean. Everyone on staff helps clean and cleans up after themselves. Assumptions that the infirmary is automatically dirty will ICly insult those who work to keep it clean.  ;)

What does the infirmary smell like?
Typically, herbs and whatever medicine is being cooked up that day. Sometimes soup. The scent can depend on what's going on in the infirmary.

Is there food and drink in the infirmary?
Ania makes a new pot of soup every day and keeps it near the fire to stay warm. It's pretty much the only thing she can cook. Any other food stores are reserved for infirmary staff to have for themselves, or give to patients as they deem necessary. You're not going to find a big filling meal in the infirmary, just basics. Hungry orphans who don't eat often have been known to come in for a free meal. Paying patients will have any food or drink added to their bill. There is always a kettle and pot for making tea, and tea blends made by Ania and some of the other healers. These are left out for pretty much anyone to make, though a healer or well-seasoned infirmary visitor is more likely to do the tea making. Water is always available.

Pricing?
Cost of healing is expensive, I base this on the time period the dream is in. At one point I was putting together a pricing list, but pricing will fluctuate depending on the patient and their particular needs. This is not common knowledge. Independent healers are in charge of getting payment for the work they do and can charge what they like. This is how they make most of their money. The only fixed prices are on medications and herbs, so a healer will basically charge for supplies and labor. Supply charges go to Ania for restocking, any money that a healer takes for labor costs is theirs. Unless they are an apprentice, apprentices get paid less. If someone can not pay, Ania offers a trade for services offered or payment plans for those who can't offer anything. Other healers can do the same but aren't required to. For anyone completely unable to pay, there is a donation fund to cover their costs. These donations typically come from Etla residents and nobles. Typically they are anonymous.
